giving young people the opportunity to develop essential life skills such as team work, leadership and communication, outside of the classroom environment.
We were established in 1997 and since then have worked with over 9,000 young people every year. We have many happy customers.
School in a Bag is a simple solution created to help poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children throughout the world. Each SchoolBag is filled with stationery, learning resources and eating utensils that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all learn.
All expeditioners will fund and hand-deliver a SIAB School Bag to a student as part of their community placement.
When we say Outposts is based in a beautiful rural location on the Quantock hills we really are. Take a peek at our 'Outposts from the air' video to see just what the location is like that you would be coming to for your schools' outdoor activities. Unbelievable that we're only 10 minutes drive from the M5 yet totally secluded.
On completion of a full military career, during which he commanded a UK Special Forces Regiment, Michael founded Outposts Ltd in 1988. Since then the company has expanded to provide outdoor training to over 8500 clients annually. It simultaneously mounts overseas expeditions.
Michael's wide military experience encompasses the conventional and the unorthodox. He has led challenging expeditions in many parts of the world, particularly in the deserts and mountains of the Middle East and Africa. His life has always been an active one and he fully appreciates the need in peoples' lives to be able to work alone or to benefit from working as a team. His extraordinary military background and expertise in expedition leading make him well qualified for the task.
He is an Accredited Practitioner of The Institute of Outdoor Learning, Honorary Colonel of the RTMC and Lieutenant of The Queen’s Bodyguard of the Yeoman of The Guard.
Chloe is passionate advocate for the power of outdoor learning for children and adults. She was fortunate enough to grow up in the countryside and was a keen scout; this cemented an early love for the outdoors and sport. She studied Sport Psychology at University and throughout university worked as an instructor at an Outdoor Education Centre and was able to tie in a lot of her university work in a practical setting. Following graduation she worked hard to develop her practical skills and qualifications as well as building up a large repertoire of ‘soft skills’. She has developed and run workshops on reviewing techniques, sustainability in the outdoor industry and leadership theory.
She was promoted through Senior Instructor to Chief Instructor to Operations Manager at Mill on The Brue and is now Operations Director with Outposts Ltd where she can apply all of her experience.
Our Widening Participation Programme is specifically designed for students who are aspiring to attend university, perhaps from a background that traditionally does not enter higher education. The aim is to build the self-confidence and self-belief of a selected group of Sixth Form students. Our programmes are designed to bond students in an environment far removed from their every day school life.
"I wanted the students to step out of their comfort zone and feel more confident about strange/unfamiliar situations and the camp did all these things. It also helped them bond with people that they did not know very well quickly which was fantastic. I was really surprised by the quality of the food as I was expecting basic fare. It was delicious, plenty of it and home cooked. The ladies who provided it were also really lovely- fantastic hospitality."
